  1. Start with housing, say around half a million dollars for a reasonable house, OK there are less, say from $120000. Your spending will go up from there. Cost of living about double the US standard of living average about 60% of US.

Income is probably about 60% as well.

However the medical system is better, as is most of Europe. We are Brits and live along with many others in France. Ireland and the UK are extremely expensive.

Incidentally the French govt along with all other EU countries, have been directed to add a question to all censuses "What language is spoken in the home", the French govt response to that, dont do a census...

  2. steep for you guys. Ireland is expensive, the dollar is weak. You want a good fat deposit for a place and a chance to work when you get there at least.

  3. Dublin is probably 2000us a month rent plus bills of 500us per month avarge food bill is 500us pper month.Cheap car for around 5000us plus insurance road tax, fuel. average around 300us monthly.

Buying a house varies average Dublin house is 500,000us, 1 hr outside Dublin 400,000us.

Schooling for kids is important to check out first for kids, schoolterm starts in Sept. but some will allow entry mid term.

25,000us would set up for a year, good luck....

  4. You can come as a tourist for up to 90 days, but if you plan to stay longer you need a visa. They are hard to get unless you have special skills.

  5. If you have a job offer, that makes it much easier to sort out your residency and work permit. Otherwise, you should really think carefully about what you can offer an Irish company, or consider starting your own business.

At the moment the housing market is levelling off, which is good news for those wishing to buy. That said, it's still impossible to find a good-sized family home in Dublin city centre for less than a million Euro. Other cities are not quite so expensive, with Limerick coming in the least expensive.

Groceries were okay for a time, due to the price wars of the big supermarket chains, but these are increasing again. I stock up every week, and spend about €70 on average for 2 adults. My electricity bill is now €120 every two months, my phone bill is about €70 every two months, my broadband is €50 a month (I live in a remote area in the west of Ireland), home heating oil comes to about €140 a month, running the car averages about €150 a month - we can only afford one car right now. I don't go out to pubs much, but I do like to eat out on occasion, and see a film and the odd concert.

I don't have kids, this is all for just a small house with 2 adults, and one of us works at home. Our only indulgence is eating well, we don't like cheap food.
