  1. I'd say very low if not less than 5%. Just depends on your definition of amateur. I'm a college player currently and there are only 4 people that hit it over 300 on a consistent bases. HOWEVER, i would hardly consider them amateurs. So if your just counting strictly 'weekend golfers' it's less than 5%, If you count everyone that's not a pro, (i.e. College, HS, Ju. Co., etc.) probably around 10%-15%. As far as a ton of people saying they can on these (Y!Answers') boards, don't believe them : ). Best i could do man. Keep it in the short grass!

*P.S. OH YEA and your other question about how far, I'd say for women about 200-210 yards and for Men I'd say about 230-260 yards.

  2. I have provided a link below to the 2007 PGA Tour driving distance rankings. Notice that only 18 of the 196 names listed actually averaged over 300 yards. That's only 9%. No such statistics could accurately be be kept for amatuer players, but I'd bet it'd be much less than 1%. That's not to say that more than 1% of players are capable of hitting the ball 300 yards, but very few who are capable of doing it consistently enough to AVERAGE 300 yards. And I'd bet you dollars to donuts that less than 1 out of 50 players who will tell you that they drive it 300 yards actually do it with any amount of consistency.

BTW, there are no players on the LPGA Tour who average 300 yards in driving distance. The #1 driving player for 2007 was Karin Sjodin, who average 275.8 yards.
