Including all ethnicities, it's 5'9.5".  For whites and African-Americans, average height falls between 5'10"-5'11".  I like to go with the higher figure, so I say it is 5'10" all around.  This all applies to the younger population.  If you include the elderly, then all figures go down by a half inch.

5'10 with shoes, or about 5'9.  I am 5'10 1/2 without shoes and am taller than the average guy.  Most guys lie about their height--I used to check IDs and I was taller than most of the guys who claimed 6' or more.
