  1. Well that depends a lot upon the fertility of the parents involved. Diet, exercise, stress and health all effect fertility. Also genetics can play a major role.

    1. Are you asking this question because you are a new breeder and want to be sure to have enough funds for the litter and any possible complications?

    2. Or are you asking so that you can estimate how much money you are going to make off the pups?

If your answer is #1 I would also consult my veterinarian prior to breeding any dog for a full health check and the appropriate genetic testing recommended for the particular breed.

If your answer is #2 then STOP! Your dog's uterus is not an ATM MACHINE. Prior to breeding any dog you should fist make sure that it is free of health and genetic defects www.offa.org . Does your dog meet the breed standard set forth by the AKC for size and temperament? Are you breeding to improve the line or to line your pockets? If it is the latter please google "Backyard Breeder" to see if you qualify. You should always have at least $2000-$3000 set aside for emergencies and routine care whenever you breed a litter. You should also always offer a lifetime health guarantee and return policy for every life you are responsible for bringing into the world. Pet quality pups should be sold with a strict spay neuter policy and show dogs under a different contract. Handing pups over to the first person who has cash makes you an irresponsible breeder. EVERY good breeder I know has an application and makes sure that the home the pup is going to will take excellent care of their offspring. They also usually have a waiting list of homes for any litter they plan.
