In Ireland,How long do mothers take off work after they have a baby and do they put the baby in some kind of daycare when they return to work, or do they have someone in the family watch the baby?

You can't really generalise about it.

If the woman is earning enough to afford childcare, she uses childcare - if not she either leaves the child with family or stays at home herself to mind it. Childcare is expensive.

Basic maternity leave is 22 weeks (paid) - this is usually taken 2 weeks before and 20 weeks afterwards. There is an option for a further 12 weeks unpaid maternity leave.
