I'm going into my senior year at high school and wanted to know what a typical path to obtaining a Masters of Business Administration looks like. Does the average person go straight from undergraduate to getting an MBA or do they work for a while, then get it? Also, I'm planning on doing study abroad and perhaps someday doing business in Europe (Germany, Switzerland or Austria) and was wondering if MBAs are transferable to other countries?

  1. College--->3-5 years work--->MBA. Go to a good MBA program and you can work anywhere.

  2. The top B-Schools want you to work for three to five years before getting your MBA.  In my opinion, it isn't worth getting an MBA unless you can go to a ranked school.  So, the typical path is to get your BA or BS, work for a few years and then go to B-School.

Since 18 of the top 20 B-Schools are in the US, of course an American MBA is transferable.
