I am thinking about taking a job with the local 798 pipeliners. I am applying to be a welder helper. The local 798 is based out of tulsa, Ok. The job requires travel and long periods away from home.

  1. You shou7ld probably talk to them about that as I am sure pay varies by company and region.

  2. Contact the local; don't take anybody's word but theirs.

Depends if you're a pre-Apprentice, Apprentice, or Journeyman and the CBA between the Union & Contractors.

The UA (plumbers & pipefitters) would have several wage scales - fitters take on a lot more risk by being out on industrial sites.

By becoming a pipeliner, aren't you limiting yourself to pipeline work? A welding helper sounds like you're just doing the set up work for the welder, why not become an Apprentice and learn to do the welding? It's limiting, IBB Apprentices are trained in welding, rigging, blueprints, etc.
