It really can vary greatly, depending on:

How far in advance you buy your ticket

Which airport in Missouri (Springfield is notorious for high fares, for instance)

Day of the week

...etc., so I would advise you to check orbitz.com or expedia.com or something like that.  I know that Orbitz has a "flexible dates" feature, that may help you find lower fares.

If you are in St. Louis, Amtrak or Megabus will likely be cheaper, and about the same time once you figure in the whole "be at the airport 90 minutes before your flight" business.  From KC, still maybe cheaper, but will take longer than flying.  If you are at Truman State, you can catch Amtrak by going down to La Plata.
