  1. If you want to be a paediatric surgeon, this should of course be the last thing you are interested in! You need 3 A'levels at AAA to get in to most medical schools. You will need to spend 5 years training to be a doctor, then 2 years pre-registration. You then need to study for and pass your Primary surgical fellowship and then the full Fellowship in Paediatric surgery. This will take another 5 or 6 years. You don't follow that path in the UK at least, if you are worried about the money!

Consultants can earn between £73,403 to £173,638, dependent on length of service and payment of additional performance related awards.

When I was a junior doctor, some 30 years ago our working week was 120 hours (Yes one hundred and twenty!) and believe it or not we often worked overtime on top of that! Many of us at that time could not even afford to buy a car and lived in hospital accomodation as we couldn't afford to buy a house! We did not do it for the money!

  2. Where? UK or US? A paediatric Surgeon would earn 100K + in the UK (once they reach consultancy level)

I'd never endure the NHS at Dr level lol, your brave, very brave!!

    In the US about $150K+

    edit

My dad is a surgeon, but you know, being a Dr/Nurse is never about the money, because no matter what your paid, it's never enough for the responsibility you have, specially as a MD. But good luck in your chosen career.

  3. From 125k on up in the US
