  1. I'm sorry I don't know how much a geneticist is paid.

I've looked but I can't find the answer.

We do have a lot of genetic research here in Australia but you probably already know that.

New research from Australia and Netherlands in the area of genetics detailed.

    Ocular Genetics

Those are just three sites I quickly found.

Also we do have DNA testing facilities, both government run and privately run, here too.

  2. I am a medical scientist working in diagnostic pathology.  There are geneticists in Australia both in diagnostic and research laboratories.  Melbourne does a lot of research (MacFarlane Burnett Institute and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute just to name two).  Your pay will depend on the lot of things - your qualifications (PhD/masters/science degree), whether you are working in research or diagnosis, whether you are working on a research grant or a permanent salary etc.  If you are working as a salaried scientist it will depend on what grade you are (1-5) and how many years of experience you have (goes up yearly for 4-7 years at each grade).  There are also differences between states.

Salary could be anywhere from $AUS 45000 to $100000+ depending on above factors.

  3. Good luck being a geneticist in Australia! No genetics research done here. Heck we don't even have good DNA testing facilities, we have to ship samples to the US. Try South Korea or the US.
