What is the average size of an adult Yorkie?

I'd like a Yorkie that is on the small side. If both of the parents are pretty small, does that mean that the pup should be about their size as well? It's most important that it's healthy but it'd be great to find one that is tiny and healthy! I also know there is no such thing as a Teacup Yorkie.

  1. Yorkies "must not exceed 7 pounds"

Size of parents does not guarantee size of the pup either.  If there are larger dogs in either parent's pedigree there could be a throwback gene that causes a slightly larger pup.

Look for a reputable breeder who is breeding show-quality dogs.  She is breeding for dogs that fit the standard.. and breeding for health.  She can also give you a rough idea on what to expect from that particular pup, as she knows what she's seen from previous litters in that line, and she also researched the pedigree.

  2. A fully grown Yorkie should be about 6 to 7 inches tall and weigh around 7 pounds. Here is some additional Yorkshire Terrier information: http://www.purebredpups.org/Breed_Info/1...

  3. The breed standard will tell you the size.

"Weight: Must not exceed seven pounds."
