  1. Rugby is 80 minutes and Football is 90 minutes.

As for the ball being in play, Football would win as it is thrown in as soon as it is out

  2. basically it depends how open and accurate the game is,  which basically depends on where the rugby is being played, ie in New Zealand and Australia we like to keep the ball in play and string together phases and combinations, whereas in the northern hemisphere the game can get quite slow with alot of 'dead' ball. American football is no comparison in this respect though because as soon as a tackle is made the game stops right? in rugby a tackle simply means a ruck forms...the game doesnt stop and the ball is still in play

  3. Football as in Soccer or Gridiron? Well on average at the 2003 Rugby World Cup the average time the ball was in play was 42% or around 33 to 34 minutes.

  4. If you watch or play rugby downunder eg NZ,AUSSIE,South Africa..we have an emphasis on running the ball and keeping it in play and you find you have 4 lineouts in a half unless theres a penalty.out of 80mn the ball is in play 75mn

  5. Rugby is played 40 mins each half.
