What is the average value for contents insurance for a three bedroom house with no major valuable items?

I've not had to get content insurance before and my removals company want to know the estimated value of the items i'm moving. I've not got a clue, help.

  1. Working in insurance, I'd probably agree with around the £40k the other guy said. You might be able to knock a bit off if you don't have any kids (it's amazing how much difference this seems to make), from experience a lot of old couples living in a two bedroom house suffice nicely on £20k. That said, I'm assuming with a three bed that you've got at least a partner if not a family so you'll probably be looking at the higher end of that scale.


  2. Bearing in mind most insurers insure on a replacement as new basis, you have realistically got to be looking at a minimum of £40,000. The is a sum insured guide on our website if this helps. It is surprising how things add up!

  4. Best guess would be 10% of the house value.  So a $125,000 3 BR home would need content insurance of $12,500
