What sort of wage could a nurse expect to earn in New Zealand? A few people have told me $40,000 - 50,000, but that seems a little high to me, as that's not far off the wages in the UK and I'm told New Zealand's wages are significantly lower than the UK, although living costs are lower to so it evens out.

  1. My sister-in-law is a nurse and she told me on the phone last week she gets $29 an hour - more on weekends.

    She's in Christchurch

  2. my mum was a nurse and she says approximately $18 an hour for a registered nurse!!!

    hope that helps :)

  3. $13-14 a hour

  4. i just came across an article, not sure what year it was published but i think its pre 2004, after which nurses were awarded a 20-30% pay increase

it says the salary for a graduate nurse is $33,000 and the top salary scale is $45,000 as i say those figures are quite likely higher now

  5. There was some major industrial action a year or two back, and nurses won a large increase. The effect of this was to bring our wages here to a competitive level.

Living costs have also increased in recent years, with most houses at least doubling in value since 2003.

$50k is not unrealistic, see link.
