  1. I teach in Ohio and my school districts contract hours are 8-3, this will vary by district and their contracts.  I have attached a site below with the average teacher salaries and looks like California is the highest.

  2. The amount of work varies depending on grade level and class assignment, I teach 4th grade all subjects.  I try to do all of my work during the school day, planning, grading, etc. and I somehow manage to go home about 45 minutes after student dismissal.  Which is pretty good considering some of my coworkers go home around 6 pm...

The salary really depends where you work...I teach in Texas, in the largest school district, and beginning salaries are around $42,500, but I know California, New York and Illinois pay more.  Just remember their cost of living is much higher in those states than in Texas....

  3. I teach in NM, one of the lowest salaries in the US for teachers (we start at 30,000).  We have five hours of instruction per day, one hour of prep time, bus duty two days per week for about a half hour a week, half an hour for lunch (6.5hours at school), but the out-of-school prep time will vary more based on the teacher than on the state.
