What is the avg renewal term? how much money on avg would you make?

I was offered a job as an insurance agent for Aflac. I am concerned as to what kind of money I would be making. I have never been a saleperson nor had to live off comission. Can someone please give me some guidance and feedback as to how it is to work for this company or to sell insurance??

  1. Insurance is one of the hardest businesses to survive in, only 2 out of 10 people survive the first year. Renewal commissions don't really make much of an impact for about 3-5 years. in other sales positions the clients come to you for example car dealerships, you sit around and wait for a customer. In insurance you must go out and find prospects. I hate to say it but some sales managers try to find young attractive women so male prospects will talk to them, I see this a lot with Aflac and Pharmaceutical sales. Aflac sells to small employers so you will either spend a lot of time making cold calls or going door to door visiting businesses. You can pretty much bet you will make less than they are telling you. 20K for a first year agent is pretty good.
