What is the baggage allowance for first time migrating residents to Australia?

Does is depend on Airlines? I am flying United and Virgin Airlines from the US. Thanks!

  1. Trans-Pacific allowance is quite generous - 2 bags not exceeding 32kg each, but it does depend on the airline.


  2. It depends on the airline.  It should say your baggage allowance on your ticket, it's normally around 20kg.  The baggage allowance is the same for everyone.  The airline doesn't care if you are relocating.

  3. Not sure about from the USA, but the following applies from the UK:

    Confirm with the airline in advance, and show them the migration visa, and most airlines will double the allowance to 40kg.

    Try to get the confirmation in writing, as things sometimes go wrong on the day of the flight, and it hasn't been marked on the record.  A copy of an email, letter or fax in your possession confirming the figure will help in those circumstances.

    This only applies to the FIRST trip dated after the migration visa is issued.
