What is the basic Derwent Pencil?

I am 11 and wondering what derwent pencil I'm going to get I'm only going to draw backgrounds and draw pictures and I only need 10-25 pencils. Thanks Remember Best Answer Gets 10 Points!!

  1. Derwent and other brands do sets of pencils that incorporate a range of hardness and softness. Whether buying a set or individually i suggest you get a range of pencils in grades from 9B (the softest) through to 9H (hardest) as you will be able to experiment and see what works best for you. The softer the pencil the blacker and more easy to smudge the marks you make will be, harder pencils producing paler colours and more "scratchy" lines. If you aren't sure  which would work best for you, try something like a 4b,2b and 2h as these will give you an idea of the range, most artists tend to use the lower end (3-9) of the B range and they allow more expressiveness in the marks they make, and  can easily be blended with a paperstump (torchillon) or finger.
