  1. Ethanol is produced from corn, and emits volatile organic compounds (VOC) and nitrogen oxides which cause smog. It also produces significant amounts of CO2, which creates global warming.  Since it uses corn, ethanol has raised prices of corn in the U.S.

Ethanol is currently used as an additive to gasoline at about a 10% concentration.  There are some studies that show that ethanol can reduce VOC emissions when added to gas.  When added to gas, ethanol will reduce your gas mileage.

You can buy a E85 rated vehicle, that can use up to 85 percent content ethanol.  There are various gas stations that offer E85 fuel.

Overall, requiring ethanol to be added into gas, was a boon to farmers, when it was written into the Energy Bill of 2005.  Unfortunately, ethanol use did increase food prices, due to a reduction in the supply of corn.  It also produces more CO2 than regular gas, when you consider the production aspects and the lower gas mileage.

  2. Yes

I dont know why anyone would

Not if you ask me or actually read up on it.

Same as good car mileage in the US.

Ethanol is a political tool to win votes in Iowa.

  3. Ethanol is not a solution. It was a major score by the farmer's lobby in congress that caught on in the media.

  4. Yes, it does pollute.

Yes we can use it as car fuel.

It may or may not be environmentally safe. It may have problems, but they would be very different problems from those of petroleum.

For me in the U.S. I consider anything better than 30MPG good, but I don't know about Canada.

  5. It pOllutesll

  6. Dollar Dollar Bills y'all. Micheal is right. Ethanol for fuel is only driving prices up on produce foods, which will drive everything up in the end. If you want a real solution, my suggestion is hemp based bio-fuel.Bio-diesel fuels emit 80% less carbon dioxide and nearly 100% less sulfur dioxide. Hemp fuel is 10X less toxic than salt and as biodegradable as sugar. It is estimated that if 6% of the continental U.S. grew hemp we would be completely energy efficient. You can make so much from hemp. You can compress the fibers and make building material stronger than wood pulp, and naturally light, pest, mildew, mold, disease, rot, and heat resistent. It can replace coal as a biomass as well. The biofuel from hemp oil can be mixed in any ratio to diesel, or can be burned by itself in any unmodified diesel engine. I recommend reading more about hemp(The Emperror Wears No Clothes). The most common mistake people make, is associating hemp with marijuana. You can't smoke hemp.
