You have a wide range to choose from,  really.   There are models from Canon, Nikon and Sony selling for $300 and under.  These brands are about the best for reputation and being well made and dependable.

Try to stay away from bargain prices on cameras like Kodak, Casio, Samsung just to name a few.  You will be better satisfied and your camera will last longer is you buy the more popular consumer brands.
