  1. My son's belly buttom simply looked weird.  It looked like someone had tied a redish balloon wrong.  He also had a few little bits stuck on when the big piece fell off.  These gradually fell off on their own.

Over the next few months, his belly button got more normal looking although he doesn't have an inny or an outy.  He's got something in between.

I think that it's because he was not breathing when he was born and got his cord cut and clamp incredibly fast without much ado as they were focused on getting him breathing.

  2. Our daughter's was kind of crusty underneath when it was getting ready to come off...  I actually thought it might be infected, but it fell off on it's own, and healed just fine.  When it came off, the skin was a little raised and reddish, but it eventually went back down to a normal adorable innie!

  3. It can be red for a day or two, but it should look fairly normal unless there is a hernia or infection present. My cousing had her son on 8 8 08 and she had his first bath pics on her myspace, and his looks completely normal a week after birth. My daughter's took a little longer to fall off, and then hers looked normal too. The cord itself is all dried up and looks like a flake of poo(for lack of a better description, lol)

    Good luck!

  4. Should be a little red, and have blood of course on the belly button, once you wash your baby the belly button should look like a normal belly button.

  5. Well, it may be pink or red, and some crusty. But don't be alarmed. :)

    Some BB's are ineys...some are outies. :)

(Congrats, and give youself an xtra chocolate chipped cookie!)

Don't forget the area may be sore to the touch :)

    Hope I helped.....

  6. Yea it's definitely going to look red and raw. Try not to put the baby in restrictive clothing. If you can let it "breathe" it'll heal faster.
