  1. F is what we are used to

C has 0 as freezing point and 100 as boiling point for water, the universal solvent

  2. these are standardized methods for communicating temperature. the benefit of using one over the other is calculations are created with one measure in mind--if you use F degrees in an equation that was written to use C then your answer will be wrong. and vice versa.

  3. Neither one is "better"

It's just what you're used to.

Celcius is defined by 0 degrees being the melting point of ice, and 100 degrees being the boiling point of water, divided in 100 equal steps. It uses the same increment as the Kelvin scale, so it's easier to convert, which makes it simpler to read the more scientifically used Kelvin scale.

Farhenheit is defined with freezing point of water at 32 degrees and boiling at 212, placing them exactly 180 degrees apart (or "half a circle"), A degree on the Fahrenheit scale is 1/180th part of interval between the ice point and steam point or boiling point. Fahrenheit determined 0 degrees by placing a thermometer in a mixture of ice, water, and ammonium chloride, a salt. and determined that 96 degrees is human body temperature. Fahrenheit found this scale to very elegant and fitting with the grand scheme of things.

Neither of them is better, but I've always though Celcius made far more sense, as does the metric system. They safe a lot of calculating.
