  1. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas and comes from the natural breakdown (radioactive decay) of uranium. It is usually found in igneous rock and soil, but in some cases, well water may also be a source of radon.

It is extremely harmful to health (The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that as many as 20,000 lung cancer deaths are caused each year by radon.) Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer.

We can enlist some benefits of radon as follows:

•Radon has been used in some spas for presumed medical effects.

•Radon is used to initiate and influence chemical reactions and as a surface label in the study of surface reactions.

•Radon is used in Earthquake prediction

•Therapeutic use (Radon is obtained in hospitals for therapeutic use by pumping the radon from a radium source and sealing it in extremely small tubes so the radon can be given to the patients.

•Radon is also used in treating some type of cancers.

  2. Radon gas is a very low level radioactive gas that seeps from certain areas of our planet, often above granite. I do not know of any benefits of radon, except perhaps that people are cautious about building in such areas due to the health risk, and so one gets a bit of undisturbed nature here and there.

Radon gas is dangerous to most mamals, but only over time and when it is in large concentrations, such as one gets in modern, relatively airtight houses and buildings.
