I'm traveling with my sister, and we'll spend a couple of days in London, but I have no idea how to get to our hotel... :( We'll be staying at Royal National... I would prefer it to be a bus, because I have a really strange fear of tubes... Thanks in advance :)

  1. If you really hate the tube, try dot2dot service http://www.dot2.com/Home.aspx?utm_source...

It's basically a shared taxi service.

If money is too tight for that, then take the National Express bus to Victoria (GBP 4 per person), then the number 38 bus to Russell Square.

    Enjoy!

  2. if you go by bus you'll spend ages in a cramped claustrophobic environment (traffic congestion is horrible in London) ... I know a lot of people have a fear of underground railways but it really is the only way to get around London ... the tube from Heathrow is fast and efficient and by far the least expensive way to get to your hotel

  3. OH Sam - the Piccadily line from Heathrow runs MUCH more frequently than every half hour - like about every 3 minutes at peak times and rarely much more than every 10 minutes.

otherwise I would agree - The tube is THE way to go - a lot of it from Heathrow into town is above ground anyrate.

    ...

  4. I do NOT suggest taking the bus out of Heathrow.... We attempted it..trying to get to Slough, and had and adress and everything.. the bus drivers were all A**holes, and didnt know where we ment we needed to get to and kept sending us in the wrong direction. We ended up stranded in Hayes at midnight freaked the fack out cause we were 3 young girls feeling in an uncomfortable situation. Took us 5 HOURS to get a 10-20 minute drive away.

  5. By far the best way of getting around London *is* the tube - it's time to face your fear!

You can get on the Tube at any terminal in Heathrow, onto the Piccadilly line which should come every half hour or so. That line will bring you all the way to Russell Square station, which is the closest station to your hotel.

The Tube is excellent once you get used to it, you might want to buy either a travelcard or an Oyster (top-up) card for yourself to save money. Seriously, the Tube is great!

  6. I spent most of my life in a board school in Chicago and was sent to London for boarding school. Good times. I am Canadian and my family lives in Canada so I go home to see them  twice a month. So, I go up and down from Heathrow a lot. The subway is the only way get up and down. I sometimes take a taxi but it is expensive, yes. I sometimes get Charles... the um butler dude that doesn't talk very much. lol. to drive me to the airport but then I always feel like a spoiled brat. I like to carry my own bags it makes me feel important or normal and the subway is great. just put you best shoulder forward and force your way in.. that is what I do.

The buss is alright but they usually, believe it or not, are more packed then the subway.

    Have a great trip!

I prefer being home, in Canada than being in cramped London.

    G'day
