I looked on review sites and found almost nothing on the 2-stroke versions. Can anyone help? By the way I have a Yahama 115hp 2007 outboard right now so I'm looking for something about 05' through 07'

  1. Yamaha

  2. Well the reason you arent finding anything on the 2 strokes is because they are phased out now. Your not going to find anything newer other than a 4 stroke motor.

  3. Evinrude E-Tech is the only way to go.  They have re-designed these things to not only create much more horsepower than their competitors, but they do it with strict emissions standards!  Check out this link, it might help with your decision!

    Good luck and Happy Boating!

by the way....it is an emmisions legal TWO STROKE!!!

  4. The mercury optimax 115 is the only way to go. It is more efficient than all 4 strokes on the market in the same horsepower range.  The two stroke still has the best power curve compared to the 4 stroke engines. Thats why I love them.  The merc optimax is a computerized direct fuel injected engine, the engine is oil injected alos which means you will have to fill the resovoir on the eninge about every 50 gallons of gas or so you run through it. It is avaiable with tiller or wheel steering also new for this year is power steering.  They started the Opti in 115 horsepower in 2004 so finding a 05-new is posssible.

  5. Mercury offers the 115hp in the Optimax lineup and is a 2-stroke high performance engine.

  6. I think they are all good!1Your choice!!

  7. I don't get it. You have a great engine, why change?

I have driven the 115 Yamaha and loved it.

  8. All three of the most popular engines are very similar and are good engines, reliable, cheap to maintain, Yamaha, Mercury and Mariner. I know that Mercury and Mariner started fazing the two strokes out last year but there should still be plenty of 115s 05-07 on the market, probably a lot cheaper because 4-strokes are becoming more prevalent.
