  4. Best is completely subjective. The only real answer is the one you shoot well, that functions reliably, that fits you perfectly, and which you are happy with. Anything more and we're into semantics and situations where one gun might be better than another. And that means we're into opinions which can't be proven one way or another.

  5. I like my 70 year old bolt action Winchester.

I just wish I could find a mag for it...

Winchester said they would make me one for $135

My grand dad paid $17 for it new

  6. i myself would say my ruger 10\22! but that's just my opinion. i like them because they r very dependable and fairly accurate but i have only used a minor amount of .22's in my life so i can only help you out so much

  7. Thats alot to ask and depends on who you ask. Id have to say hands down the Ruger 10/22 is the most popular. But Marlin, Henry, Remington, Stevens/savage have all had some really good ones. Even winchester had some really nice ones. Kimber and Ruger are now making bolt action 22's as well. They are all pretty good guns, but the 10/22 has on sheer numbers in my opinion.

All of those I have mentioned have dpendable accurate rifles. The 10/22 is accurate, dependable, fun to shoot and economical. There are also a jillion after market parts you can get for them to pretty much make them look and perform the way you personally want them too.

  8. Anschutz in a bolt action, WInchester 63 for a semi-auto.

  9. Winchester, Remington, and Marlin are the three (3*) best ones.* They are all well made and accurate.*

  10. I have held one, smelled one, and almost bought one.  That one is a Cooper.  Their rifles are semi custom made on actions similar to

Kimber.  All of their rifles are gauranteed to shoot into 1/2 inch at 50 yards.  I held their Jackson squirrel rifle, magnificient

Nex would be an Anshutz sporter based on their match 54 action.

Last but in high regard qould be the new Remington custom shop model 547.

The handling on the Cooper and Anshutz is like a fine car, that flows easily to the cheek and has an incredible high degree of accuracy.

  11. There may be better .22s out there but I have always liked the Browning .22 Automatic break-down model.  Growing up in S. Texas a friend of mine had one we thought was a single-shot.  He treated it like a single-shot flipping the rifle over, held back the slide and dropped in a single .22 when he wanted to shoot it.  I always thought it was neat the way the empty casing was expelled downward toward the shooter's feet.  And that .22 was so accurate too, every bit as accurate as my own Winchester single-shot .22 carbine.

Years later I realized that my friend's Browning was actually a semi-auto.  My friend's Dad wouldn't let him use it as such so he kept the tubular magazine rod at home forcing my friend to use the .22 as a single-shot.  Later my godson's step-dad bought him a Chinese (or Japanese?) Browning clone and I discovered the break-down feature of these little .22s.  About twelve years ago I found one of these early Brownings and picked it up for $145.  I paid a gunsmith another $90. to deep clean it and remove the cheap 4x scope and replace it with the open rear sights (which he just happened to have in stock).  It is a sweet shooting little .22 and in my opinion, one of the best.  The breakdown feature is what seems to most intrigue those unfamiliar with this model.
