I am looking for a 250cc scooter for commuting to work and saving money on gas. I have heard stories about scooters not coming with a warranty or spare parts, I don't mind paying a few extra bucks to get something good and reliable. What is the best 250cc scooter to buy?

  1. If you want cheap junk go to e-bay, if you want a good scooter with a warranty I agree go with the Cheetah Touring 250cc. I did a lot of research before buying one for my wife and no one has a warranty or quality control like they do.

  2. If you're looking for a scooter just don't buy chinese. Buy japanese, or italian, however if you end up buying italian then you'll en up spending a 5000 thousand extra bucks rather than one or two extra thousand for a decent japanese scooter. like a yamaha or a honda.although they don't sell a traditional looking 250 scooted, jsut the new age.

You'd be better off just getting a ninja 250 motorcycle if you want a 250. It's faster, gets equal mileage and you'll be safer.WHY?

because most accidents happen at intersections, and on a sportbike you'll be wearing a full face helmet and an armoured jacket while on the scooter you'll be wearing a t-shirt shorts and half helmet.  The point is that you'll be more safet concsious on a motorcycle because the acceptable style is to where more protection.

  3. If you want THE BEST scooter... Check out either the Piaggio MP3 or the Vespa GTS.  Otherwise, for a more cost effective and highly reliable solution, there are many 250cc scooters made by Kymco that are extremely good scooters.  Check out their 'People' models and the Xciting models.

  4. one of the most reliable 250 cc scooter is the honda big ruckus. at the moment it's difficult to get one but if you can find one please go for it ;-)

  5. I recommend Kymco, they are the largest scooter manufacture in the world, Their rating as far as fit, finish and reliability  is surpassed only Piaggio and Vespa. They  are rated over all of  your big Japanese  scooters Honda and Suzuki etc. Their warranty is as good or better than a Cheetah. I went and looked at them. They have three styles in a 250cc scooter. They are priced well and have been in business since 1963 use to  make Honda's small motors. Not  Chinese company. In the six years I have been around them they seldom need more than oil changes and valve adjustments normal maintenance things. You would not be any safer on a ninja 250 than a scooter that is bs. Take a MSF and always wear a helmet. Today's scooters are not the scooters of old. Any Kymco 250 or larger I would ride coast to coast with out a second thought. You also have  plenty of storage for carrying things.

  6. Cheetah has the best warranty all around, no question.

  7. If you are looking for a quality scooter with a good warranty I would go with the Cheetah Touring 250cc (by Cheetah Motorsports). I have one and it came with a 2 year warranty that covered parts and labor and they even threw in roadside assistance for 2 years, just in case.

The thing I liked best about it was that it came fully assembled (most don't) and they acctually test drove it before they shipped it to me!

  8. Buy from Honda or Yamaha if you want reliability and support.

The chinese scooters from the big box stores fall apart within a week.

  9. The most important thing you can do when buying a scooter is do your homework. The devil is always in the details and this is always located on the warranty page of each manufacturer/dealer.

If you are looking for a $6500 scooter than I would say look at Vespa (then again you might as well buy a car).

If you are looking to get a deal and not have the scooter fall apart after a week then I would strongly recommend a Cheetah Touring 250cc. Last time I checked they were around $2300. They are have a really good quality control process (they even test drove my scooter before they shipped it) and they give a 2 year parts & labor warranty. The warranty inlcudes 24 hour roadside assistance (thankfully I have never had to use it, but it's good to know its there).

I have had my Touring for over a year and a half and never had a problem. My boyfriend has a yamaha and he just put it on Craigslist to he can buy a Cheetah and have some money left over (to take me out of course :).
