Question:

What is the best 'First car' choice?

I'm going to be driving pretty soon, and my dad says that the insurance company recommends getting a 10 year old car.

Is that true or is he just trying to be cheap?

Also, what is a reasonable price range for a first used car?

Thanks =]]

  1. That is very true, but the only problem my parents had with that when i was driving was the lack of safety features in the older cars.

Cars from around the 98 area in time are decent cars. you can find yourself a 1998 Corolla for just about 2-3k, and it'll last you almost forever, but it wont come with the new safety features like ESP, side curtain airbags, and stuff such as that.

It'd be nice to have parents that could afford new cars, but for most case, your parents know what their finacial limits are, so just follow their lead.

But, if your buying a 10 year old car, make sure that it runs properly and that it was maintained right! the best way to do that is to get a mechanic to look at it. YES, i know it costs 40 bucks to do so, but 40 bucks now is better than 2k worth in car bills three months from now.

    good used cars are:

    Honda Civic

    Honda Accord

    Toyota Corolla

    Toyota Echo

    Toyota tercel

    toyota Corolla

    Nissan Sentra

    Nissan Altima

    good luck!

  2. well if you believe the bean counters that say new drivers are going to get into a wreck very soon.

it would be better if you wrecked a 10 year old car than a new one.

however a new car is more likely to have improved safety features side curtain air bags and ESC.

  3. The answer may vary by person. It would be a good idea to hear some of them and try to choose the best one. Here is a good one.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  4. He is probably right. I personally prefer cars from 90-95 because they are a little bit easier to work on than 96+ (OBD-II) and have lost almost all their value but little performance and no potential.

Personally I think $2000 wouldn't be too cheap to buy a kid his first car but realistically it would be nice if everyone had parents that could hand their kids $5-10K to spend on an old Nissan, Honda or Toyota.
