  1. My Audi A4 (AWD) gets about 33 MPG @ hwy.  But it is a maintenance nightmare.

    So stay away from Audi and VW (same family).

    Good Luck...

  2. My husband and I have a jeep. We live in Wisconsin and it was so good this last winter in the snow...Jeep = great 4 wheel drive.  I believe they have a few larger cars you should check out.

  3. Subaru. You want gas mileage to be your foremost decider. Gas will be $5-6 within a couple years. Subee's are reliable like other Japanese cars. If you can find a hybrid that may be a thought.

  4. Nissan Xterra or Toyota 4Runner

    if your have plenty of money Lexus GX.

    avoid any and all Jeeps, they are unreliable. (break down)

    the Honda Cr-v has a AWD not a true off road 4WD.

    the Subaru is excellent all around alternative to an SUV.

    if you just need a mud buddy buy an old Toyota truck.

    I read another poster here say

    Jeep = J.ust E.mpty E.very P.ocket

  5. Subaru Forester. Don't even get me started with this car. To say the least, it is underrated.

    Good Luck & Drive Safe

  6. Subarus seem to get the best mileage out of all 4x4s.  I would also consider a Honda Pilot or CRV.

  7. Jeep hands down.  The Grand Cherokee is a great deal and since you want good gas mileage get the V6.  You can get great deals on Jeeps even at your local dealership, simply

    work a cash deal by getting loan first. Check lendingtree.com, eloan.com, capitalone.com for the best lender resources. If you have good credit, go to roadloans.com or drivetime.com. Do your homework on the car you want. Know the invoice price minus rebates and/or manufacturers incentives before you negotiate.  Truth is, dealerships get kick-backs on all kinds of things, including a higher interest rate they can sell you (even if you qualify for a lower interest rate!).

    I actually collect sports and exotic cars and get all my cars at least 40% off retail.  In fact, before I learned Dr. Suzanne’s method - I got royally screwed three times at the dealerships.  Her site is: http://www.cartopsecret.com it is the best info you will ever learn about buying cars.  Just the tip of the iceberg is how to take advantage of rebates, hidden manufacture/dealer incentives, financing tricks, trade-in tips.  I'm serious; if you go into a dealership without this knowledge - you are in for it; they will make you feel like you got a great deal when in reality you got seriously ripped off.

  8. I would get a Jeep wrangler or sport with a straight six in it you can easily get 250,000 miles to 300,000 if you treat it right.  My friend had a sport with 280,000 miles on it before he sold it and still ran great.  Also the four wheel drive worked great still
