I'm looking to buy a new 52" lcd tv, 1080p... the works!

I would like some opinions on which one is the best. I'm looking to spend around £1200.

Important features are picture quality and connections.

Any ideas?

thanks

  1. bo for a well known make

    sony lg toshiba etc

  2. If you are going 52" or under and want the best, I'd recommend the S's... Samsung, Sony, Sharp... in an LCD. LCD's outperform plasma TV in 52" or smaller applications, hands down.

Samsung is by far my favorite, and in my experience (5 years as a broadcast engineer) outperforms the others. Their new 6 and 7 series models include their 120hz refresh rate, and under 5ms response time to really reduce lag while playing games and watching sports. Samsungs have awesome user controls, the picture quality is outstanding, and they have the latest input capabilities (Usually 3-4 HDMI, DVI, VGA, optical audio, USB, component, etc..) If you want the best LCD out there, I'd recommend a 7-series Samsung. I own two (40" LN40A650 and 47" LN47A750) and I wouldn't trade them for another TV, period.

If you want 52" or above, go with a plasma. I'm not a big fan of plasmas, but they definitely outperform LCDs 52" or bigger. As far as brands for plasma, I'm not as experienced with plasma as I am LCD's, but Pioneer and Panasonic make great plasma TVs in my experience. Also, again... try to stick with the S's (Sony, Samsung)... as you won't be let down by them.

Make sure to read reviews before you buy! Cnet reviews are very important to check out before buying. If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask!

  3. http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/87...

is what you want, they are the noisettes de chien admittedly an inch or two short of what you're looking for, and internet prices will look higher than what you're looking for, but if you go into a local shop@panasonic shop or a euronics centre something like that, have a good old haggling session and get a cracking tv for the price you want!

  4. Are you sure you want an LCD at this size? The reason I say this is that it sounds like you're serious about getting a good tv. If you want the best picture for around this screen size then I would always go for a plasma tv.

Have a look at this site before you buy:

they'll explain why. Personally if you have got around £1000 to spend on a good tv then I would go for the 50" Panasonic TH50PZ81 with built in HD tuner or the latest Samsung Series 6 PS50A656. Both are fantastic for picture and the Samung has more than enough HDMI slots (4) and other connections. The Samsung is a bit cheaper than the Panasonic but you should be pleased with either one. The only tv better than these are the Pioneer Kuros. You may find this site useful:

They review these tvs and keep up to date with the cheapest prices online.

    Hope that helps!
