Blue Smoke in Manhattan for a Danny Meyer gourmet experience. Very best in Manhattan - Great booze selection. Good for a BBQ date, Even good with the kids - Pricey

In Williamsburg, for a hip great music awesome BBQ no frills experience with the guys or a date that you have been out with a bunch of times and are looking for an ultra casual experience look no further than Fette Sau. It is awesome.

Communal tables, Meat (smoked to perfection) sold by weight with basic sides and potato rolls and great small batch whisky selection and craft beer.

Absolutely without a doubt for me is Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem.   After it was featured on a show on TLC, I had to go and try it.  I was blown away how authentic the food was - and bonus - FREE REFILLS on soda.    Make a reservation - otherwise you run the risk of waiting a long time.  They have live entertainment too.  Check out their website.

I've also heard about Sylvia's but I've never been - I've heard mixed reviews, but can't speak from experience.  http://www.sylviasrestaurant.com/

The other places, Dallas BBQ and other chain bbq restaurants, in my opinion are not great.  You can have their food anywhere.

try dallas bbq in 42nd street or 23rd street and 8th avenue. or u can go to applebees in 42nd street.
