  1. I have been banking with HSBC since i studied at Uni.

I have saving accounts there, there is no monthly bank fee.

It offers high interest rate when you bank with them, and has seroius saver account about 7% interest rate calculate in monthly basis. Internet banking is quite secure, there is a device to enter security code after you put your password and after you 're banking or transfer.

I had banked with Westpac before, but i don't really like it. there is a mothly bank charge.

  2. Bendigo, you can ring the branch and speak to a real person.

  3. want to support the community - go with the Bendigo bank (community bank)

want the homeloan with the best minimal features - ANZ

want the bank with the most branches and ATM's - CBA

want to be screwed by one of themost expensive banking systems in the world - choose any of them...

  4. HSBC is the cheapest, as they pay a decent interest rate on your credit balance, and don't charge monthly fees.

You can deposit and withdraw from any Post office.

You can also withdraw from ANY other banks ATM up to 5 times per month with NO charges.  (Most banks charge $1.50 to $2 for that)

I've had accounts with most banks, and as I never need to visit an actual branch, (I use internet banking), I find HSBC perfect.

For Credit cards, consider the ANZ Rewards card, as they rebate you about 0.5% of all spending each year.  If you use it for all your expenses and pay of the balance in FULL each month, you can easily get back more than the $48 annual card fee.  Not a good one if you don't pay back in full though, as the interest rate is 20.74%

  5. I'd go with the commonwealth bank,it offers netbank saver and has Australia's leading online broking services

  6. Try a credit union the service is the same and the fees are less than the banks, I only use credit unions now and have run a business account with them for years.

  7. I've been with the Bank of Queensland for many years and it's great. It's small enough that you can still phone each branch directly and you can get to know the staff at your branch, and large enough to have a wide range of services and a good number of branches and ATMs all over Australia. I like the fact that you can walk into a branch and get a statement whenever you like and you can replace a lost or faulty ATM card over the counter. And you get to choose your own PIN too. They advertise that they have the 2nd largest number of ATMs in the country and there always seems to be one when you need it, even outside Qld.  I've had work accounts with Commonwealth, Westpac and ANZ and none of them were a patch on BOQ for service.

I do agree with the other answerer though - fees and charges at all Australian banks are criminally high.
