1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers were the best college football team ever. The offense led by Tommie Frazier was averaging 49 points per game and the black shirt defense only allowed an average of 18 points a game. Nebraska blew out the Florida Gators in the Fiesta Bowl, 62-24 to lock up consecutive undefeated National Championships.

Without a doubt the 2001 Miami Hurricanes.  They had a terrible coach in Larry Coker and still ran roughshot.  If Jimmy Johnson, Dennis Erickson, or Butch Davis ran this team they would have put up 50 each game and would have allowed an average of less than 7.  They were up 34-0 at halftime against Nebraska when Coker pulled them in.  They could have put up 60.  They were scoring at will.  They beat 5 top 20 teams that year.  They beat teams by an average of 43-10, which includes 3 shutouts.  When they beat ranked teams, they did it by an average of 47-14.  Then look at the talent:

The 1983 Hurricanes were not the best team ever, perhaps not even the best that year, but they played one of the best games ever and beat perhaps one of the greatest teams never to win the title.

I have seen several great teams. I am Florida Gator fan. I like your answer. Honestly though the best team I ever saw was the 1991 Washington Huskies.They shared the title with the Miami Hurricanes. I think they would have crushed them easily.

On the other hand. The weakest champion I ever saw was the 2007 LSU Tigers. They were not even the best team in their own conference.

For the person who said Miami. You are correct. That was a great team. I still think Washington would have beaten them.

I'm 16 years old. I think it's that 2005-06 Texas Longhorn team that beat the powerhouse topdog USC. The Hook'em 'Horns showed great team unity and the team, led by Vince Young, went on to win what can be considered the greatest College Football championship game. But that's my opinion coming from a 16 year old.

That Florida team was not that great... Not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. But the greatest team that ive seen would probably have to be Nebraska of the early 90's when they won back to back in 94 and 95 going 13-0 and 12-0. Or 2002 Ohio State which not only went 14-0 but also were 13 or 14 point underdogs in the championship game against the crazy talented Miami team that year and pulled it off.

I'll give my 2005 Longhorns some love, but the 95 Huskers were just ridiculous. 400 yds rushing a game, you couldn't stop them even if you had 8 to 9 guys in the box on defense, They still ran it down your throat, and made defenses look elementary!

'83 Nebraska Cornhuskers, they didn't win the National Championship but in my opinion they have to go down as one of the best ever. Also, the '95 Huskers were a great team.
