peugeot 306 1.9 turbo diesel, but i wouldn't bother with a diesel looking at the price of it at the moment!!

Depends if you can get hold of a Scoda Octavia, the taxi drivers have them for econemy reasons, not to mention they are fast as h**l!

Well for £3000 you can afford a 51 plate Peugeot 307 hdi. Performance, handling and comfort of the focus at a bargain price as they have been phased out.

If you want a bit more luxury then an Audi A4 on a 1999 S/T plate can be had for about £2750 upwards. These are very solid cars with good reliability, performance and will go on to 250,000 miles no problem. I like the Ford Mondeo TDCi too. for £3000 there abouts you'll pick up a Y reg one with 80k on the clock and they are pretty rapid. Taxi Drivers choice award goes to the Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi which £3000 will get you a smart 02 plated one with around 65,000 miles on the clock.

Look hard and test drive a few cars to feel the difference. Drive a hard bargain and you could look at cars upto £4000 being reduced to £3250 if you push hard enough! Good luck.
