My son is tall and skinny. He plays basketball and needs to gain a few pounds so that he doesn't get pushed around on the court so easily. Trouble is, he likes a more healthy diet and with the conditioning workouts he has to attend, he's losing weight instead of gaining. What are some good ways for him to add calories without adding too much junk to his diet? (He's already drinking protein drinks.)

  1. High protein diet and excercise..build bulk..eat lots of carbs..

  2. Bread, rice, pastas, dairy stuff...it is better to gain weight with healthier food anyway.

  3. whats wrong with long n lean. i think thats cool.. as long as he eats well and exercises.. theres nothing wrong with it. dont make it an issue.

  4. fruit. yogurts. sandwiches. salads..

  5. well wate watchers gets you into shape wether you need to loose or gain! cuz what it does is it makes you eat the right amount of food each day! its easy!

  6. Eating a lot of protein bars help as well. When I want to build muscle every morning I eat a powerbar harvest and drink a whole 2 serving odwalla protein drink. He could also eat another in between meals in the afternoon. There are tons of kinds so I didn't get bored of them.

  7. Aside from eating the required calories, protein consumption should be the ideal weight in grams.  So if he wants to be 200lbs, he should eat at least 200 grams of soluable protein.

He also need to work his muscles into anerobic strain.  Lots of weights and low repitition.  Lots of weights is defined as 70% of his maximum ability.  Low reps is like 5 to 7.  Three sets.  Three times a week.  Muscles grow during sleep so encourage him to take 1 1/2 hour naps.  I know it sounds like being baby but seriously, after lifting weights, he needs to do aerobic conditioning.

  8. I like carnation instant breakfast (or the like). It's a little more than the regular specialized protein drinks, while not being just adding sugar or grease to your diet. I've known several people that have used these, actually, not just me
