  1. Any of them.

Amplified only if you are at the each of the reception area for that antenna.

  2. dunno

  3. In North America, analog and digital TV broadcasts use the same antennas. The idea that there are special "HDTV antennas" is just marketing hype.

Antennas used to receive HDTV signals do not have to be amplified. In fact, when I got my converter box I tied using a 7" wire as an antenna. It picked up all the local digital channels.

What antenna is best for you is highly dependent on where you are located. For example, if all your digital stations broadcast in the UHF range, you would pick a different antenna than you would otherwise.

At $20 or less, you  are pretty limited on what antennas you can buy. And any amplified antenna is going to have a poor amplifier.

If all your stations are UHF, try a Zenith ZHDTV1, Philips PM-HDTV1, or  Eagle Aspen DTV2BUHF

If the stations are both VHF & UHF, find a non-amplified rabbit ear VHF/UHF antenna you can find for $20. How about a   RCA ANT1020  ?
