What is the best Hardtail Mountain bike I can buy for around £200?

I'm not entering competitions so don't say I need to spend a lot more. I would mainly use it for work and some off road biking. I don't want a hybrid as the off roading i'll be doing would be to hard for one to handle.

  1. yea as above the carreras ar very good bikes 4 what you want,  iv had a cross sprinter hardtail for a cpl of years cost about £230 & that also was a cracking bike,  for your budjet thers loads a good bikes around... the main advantage of spending hundreds of pounds it that the frames are much lighter and the components are stronger but unless your a serious off roader then stick around £200 ish and you`ll get summot diecent for that..

  2. Try Diamondback.  They are the mountain biking brand name of Raleigh.  You will get a viable machine that, while you can not throw it around a race course, will have some reasonable XC ability.

You might also try some of the halfords stock, specifically the GT or Careera stuff.

Primarily, this is a components game.  Do not get anything that doesn't at least have Shimano or SRAM gears.

    Luck

  3. Take a look at Canyon bikes.

  4. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Model... ............this is good for the £200 but with such a low budget you wont get anything good

My choice for you would be this for £270 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Model...

  5. me personally would recommend for that price if your wanting a new bike the carrera vulcan v spec £229 from halfords but dont be put of by the shop just check they have assembled it correctly, i bought the very same bike when they 1st arrived in this country jan 2008 ti upgrade the parts its fully upgradable you can put disk brakes on if you like  but personally i dont like disk brakes that why i choose this model or you can buy the disk spec for £270, the carrera range have some very good quality bikes, the carrera's have the same spec as my kona so cant all be bad the only thing people could really complain about with carrera's or all cheap bike's for that matter is the forks but for the price there great, considering you can pay over ££££ just for forks, well now after ive waffled on and properly put you to sleep hope this in some way this will help you decide. p.s other option being buy a second bike which will be all worn out and need replacing parts like crank set - chain - rear cassette - which will cost at least £100. let me know what you decide.
