What is the best Home Insurance company? How much should I expect to pay each month for Home Insurance for a $300,000 brand new home? Are there things that I should include in my Home Insurance policy that is not mentioned to me? The home is in Fresno California.

  1. the best home insurance is to have it when you need it and. so it is more to your advantage if you can afford a 300,000 home then you can afford the insurance

  2. I agree with Useful that if you are eligible go to USAA for your home AND auto.  they have great rates for the military.  Make sure you know to schedule anything of value (ex: jewelry, guns, etc) as these things have a limit on coverage unless they are scheduled.  be sure you have replacement not on only on the home but on your contents as well.  I suggest carrying at LEAST $500,000 liability on the policy.  Its the cheapest part of your policy and in todays world one of the most important coverages.  living in California, you may want to place earthquake coverage on the policy as well.

  3. Your main concern is not what company you have - but making sure that you have the correct policy form to protect your property and adequate coverage amounts. Then make sure you pay your premium on time.

The best home owners insurance is the one that is in force at the time of the loss.

If you have your homeowners and auto with the same company - you usually get a multi-line discount.

  4. If you really are a Sgt or prior enlisted...USAA BAR NONE!!!  They started as an insurance company for officer's during WWI when no one would insure the lives or life insurance of Military officers.  They have expanded to insure enlisted men and their families too.  Don't even bother talking to anyone else.

Also, get the options if you can for plumbing backup...it ALWAYS happens.  Get the largest deductable $1,000 to help reduce the rates and get total replacement coverage.  Think Fire and ...consider getting something for earthquake damage.  The two things Californian's are likely to experience more than the rest of us.

I am an army brat who joined 28 years ago.  I get calls from Geico, State Farm, allstate...they ask me who insures me and then THEY hang up.  hahahahaha  Check them out!
