I'll be installing Linux on laptop. While I can troubleshoot some basic things that can go wrong, I need a very easy to use Linux distro. I'm going to have it auto-login with a regular account so the user can just get online. It will be for web browsing and networking specifically, so good wireless card support is required.

I've tried Ubuntu and found it pretty easy to use, as well as OpenSuse. Laptop is a Compaq V2000 I believe with 512MB of RAM and not very good 3d acceleration.

It will be used by pretty novice users.

  5. http://www.mandriva.com/ or http://www.pclinuxos.com/ are ideally suited for beginners (no drivers or complicated configurations required), and you don't even need to install them to try them, just boot from the optical disk and run them in Live-CD mode.

  6. Ubuntu is the most user friendly linux experience available at the moment.
