I'm talking: hummus, taboli, baba ganoush, schwarema, and beef and chicken? And why do you like it so much or favorite dish?

  1. You can get most of those in any number of cuisine restaurants in Houston.

You can even get them at Dimassi's buffet. (The owners are Palestinian.)

If you want a great schwarma try Cafe Lili on Westheimer. If you want a more Persian flair try PawPaw or Kasra (also on Westheimer). If you want something closer to Turkish try Empire Turkish Grill on Memorial.

Note: While I have shopped at Phoenicia many times (most recently on 8/16), I've never tried their deli. I have tried the deli at Droubi's on Hillcroft and liked it.

  2. The Phoencia Deli on Westheimer for the Schwaremas.  Fadi's on Westheimer also, but no Schwaremas there.

  3. La Fendee on Westheimer. Great falafel!

  4. There two Mediterranean restaurants that are excellent not only in food quality but in price too. My very best favorite is Al-Fadi in Meyerland Plaza it is cozy and everything they serve is fresh (you should try the fresh of the day hummus and the juices, i.e. strawberry). Second choice is Dimassio or Dimmasio in Richmond Ave. it is Iranian, very similar in food and flavor. The restaurant offers a buffet with a variety of dishes that is amazing, some of the food they serve are 'posh' and exotic (like chicken or lamb in pomegranate sauce) but the price of the buffet is around $12.00.

Finally, be careful with some Mediterranean restaurants that have an outlook of been very nice and exotic but offers what is just conventional (sometimes not even 'Mediterranean' food), like 'Yia Yia Mary'z!

  5. Oh that will have to be Phoenicia's on Westheimer.  That place is my favorite.  the beef schwarema are the best, I love the sauce they put in and the hummus is to die for!!!

  6. These are nothing fancy for what Houston has to offer but I thought they were good.

    Niko Niko's on Montrose

Good gyros with lamb that had the best flavor.

The Mediterranean Chef off of Nasa Rd 1

It is practically a hole in the wall, but everything on the menu I ever had there was the best. I have no complaints about their food only the size of the restaurant. I live in Austin now and I miss the food there the most and I have not found an equal. I always get the grape leaf and taboli appetizer there and the waiter always seems to remember me. The lady fingers are really good.

    Have fun!

  7. Mary'z on Richmond.  Indoor and outdoor seating.  Quaint, affordable and delicious!  Dimassi's is good too and it's a buffet!
