If you want monochrome capture in zero light, then the Sony camcorders with the "SuperNightShot" mode is what you want. (This is the reference to Paris).

If you want normal color performance in really low light, there is no consumer caomcorder that will perform well. Consumer camcorders have small lenses and small imaging chips that make their low-light behavior poor.

The best performing, affordable, lowlight camcorder I have used is the Sony HDR-FX1. It's pro sibling, the HVR-Z1U is good, too. They have the same lens and imaging chip set up. The Canon XHA1 is pretty good, as well... as is the Panasonic DVX100 family and the HVX200 series. Notice the difference in lens and imaging chip size. Good, large glass and big imaging chips are expensive...
