What is the best Pay as You Go Sim to use when travelling to Turkey from UK?

I have an Orange Contract and Orange PAYG but is is so expensive to ring back to the UK and receive calls.

I do not usually take a phone but my son is staying at home so I need him to be able to contact me, obviously he will have the hotel number.

Is it cheaper to buy a Turkish Sim Card or are there any better deals than orange ?

The cheapest way for you would be to take an unlocked mobile phone with you and purchase a Turkish sim card when you arrive.

The calls will be much cheaper because when you use your UK Sim you will be paying both the UK and Turkey for any calls you make.

Its always better to buy a local SIM card where ever you in the world.

If you take your own SIM from UK ( from any network) it will cost you lots more .

Just take your phone( make sure its UNLOCKED) and buy a local SIM card when you are in TURKEY.

I have a 02 pay as you go mobile I use it in Turkey as I am now living here, to send a text is 49pence and an average phone call can be as much as one pound fifty for about one and a half minutes.  I would strongly reccomend just buying an international phone card for about five lira which works out at about two pound twenty five pence.

With this phone card you can follow the easy to use English instructions and for your two pound twenty five you will get up to fifty minutes call time, much cheaper and easier than using your mobile, if you really cannot be without using your mobile why not send a text.  I have been living in Turkey for nearly four months and always use a card much better but only my opinion.

Just to add some important information if someone calls you from the U.K. on your pay as you go mobile you will also get charged credit from your phone this was my experience

Get a Tesco sim FREE, & cheap to text from abroad with. In the EU it's only 35p a minute to a call a standard UK fixed-line or UK mobile anywhere - and it's only 25p to text.

all kind sim card can work in turkey. If you use turksh sim you must use Vodafone because all over the world has it.

Cheapest way, if your phone is unlocked, is to buy a sim card in Turkey and then bin in when you leave.

I've been to Turkey three times and it's always been useful to buy a Turkish Sim Card.

It will only cost a couple of pounds and it will be cheaper for you to phone your son from there. Or your son can use a phone calling card to phone that Turkish Sim card which will be much cheaper.
