  1. How often do tubes blow out on you? Personally, it's never happened to me. It happened to my kids, but in exceptional situations. We've always used whatever was cheapest at the shop.

  2. A regular $5 to $8 rubber tube does the best job. Latex tubes are lighter but bleed air fast, are very unreliable,  and they are very expensive.

  3. get the resealing, puncture proof ones with goo in them, size suitable for your rims/tyres

    worth the expense

  4. continental or michlien (sp)

  5. They all hold air well if installed properly......  but regardless of your tubes you should be checking pressure before every ride.  Even my top end Conti tubulars will lose SOME pressure after a few days.

I don't care for the ultralight tubes for every day use.   They seem to lose pressure a bit faster than normal tubes.

If you're in an area where rough roads and thorns are a problem, you can get thicker "thorn proof" tubes or even kevlar inserts for your tires.

Inspect your tires before every ride for cuts or embedded pieces of glass.  Make sure you're fully inflated to avoid pinch flats.   Check your rim tape to avoid flats from your spoke heads.   Take care and use the proper tools when installing tubes.  Its easy to damage the tube while putting the tire back on the rim.
