What is the best acne remedy for a 21 year old woman?

I have never had any skin problems until recently. I thought it was from caffiene- change in diet. I found that I hadn't changed anything in my daily routine to cause such a skin change. I have continual breakouts around my chin area and need to find an acne remedy that will help. Does proactiv really work? Is it worth a shot or is there a better remedy that anybody can recommend?

  1. ProActiv REALLY works. I've been using it for a little over a year now and I haven't suffered from a single break out. It truly works wonders and makes your skin really soft and clear. Definitely try it! I've tried other products, but none work as well as ProActive.

  2. Cecca, I started having really bad acne problems beginning when I was 16. I had acne on my shoulders that was really embarrasing. I tried Proactiv, Murad, Zyporex, Oxycerin, and even the Asso Gold Cleaning Bar with dismal results. I wound up visitng a dermatologist. After 2 months nearly all of my acne cleared up. I recommed you try finding a dermatologist that can help. http://www.homeacnecare.com

  3. There are tons of recipes on the Internet and in popular teen magazines, but here are some simple ones I like:

    Avocado Facial Mask Recipe

This is quite simple recipe. Just open a medium sized avocado, throw away the pulp and shell. Mash the avocado in a small bowl, until the texture is creamy. Massage into face and neck, leave on for fifteen minutes and then rinse. Beautiful!

Apple Zinger Facial Mask Recipe (for the oily and/or acne prone skin)

Grate one medium sized apple very finely, and then pour 5 tbsp of honey into a bowl. Mix well. Spread over skin, and let sit for about ten minutes. Rinse with cool water.

    Banana Wrinkle Fighter Recipe

You may not know it, but banana is a wonderful anti-wrinkle product. Mash 1/4 banana until creamy smooth. Spread over face and leave on for fifteen to twenty minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

    Carrot Facial Mask Recipe

Cook 2 to 3 large carrots until soft, then mash in a small bowl. Add 4 tbsp honey. Smooth over skin, wait for ten minutes and then rinse off with cool water.

Egg, Avocado & Mud Facial Mask Recipe (my favorite!)

You can purchase powdered clay at most health food stores. Mix 1 tbsp dry clay with 1 egg yolk, 1/4 mashed up avocado, and a bit of hazel to create a soft textured mixture. Spread over face, leave on until dries and then rinse off with warm water.

    Egg & Honey Mask Recipe

In a small bowl, mix 1 tbsp honey, 1 egg yolk, ½ tsp almond oil, and 1 tbsp yogurt together. Once smooth, spread over face, leave on for ten minutes and then rinse off with warm water. You will find your skin feeling tighter and younger.

    Egg Whites Facial Mask Recipe

Simply beat one egg white until frothy and then spread on face. Leave on for fifteen minutes and then rise with warm water. Your face will feel tighter.

    Egg Yolk Facial Mask Recipe

Just as simple as the egg whites facial mask, stir up one egg yolk and then apply onto face. Leave on for thirty minutes, then rinse with warm water. This recipe combats blemishes quite well.

    Honey Mask Recipe

This is quite a simple recipe. Wash your face with warm water to open up the pores, and then smear on honey. Leave on for fifteen to thirty minutes, and then rinse off with warm water.

this will soothe your skin & make it very soft.

mix together plain yogurt, egg yolk and honey.

two tablespoons of yogurt, one egg yolk and one tablespoon of honey.

    apply to clean skin.

let dry for about 15 minutes...

    rinse well with warm water.

( you can store it in the fridge for about 2 days)

    or..try this one:

one teaspoon of powdered milk, one tablespoon of ground almonds, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of aloe vera gel.

    10-15 minutes on face.

( can store in fridge for a week)

    • Honey for Best Facial

The best facial mask that i have found is honey. Use warm cloth to open pores, smear on honey, leave on 15 to 30 minutes, rinse off with warm water, and then use cold water to close pores. Use for 3 days in a row and then once a week. Sometimes I mix a little gound oatmeal with the honey, which makes a great mask.

    Facial Feels Good

One my daughter and I had fun with and found to have a cleansing and softening effect was to mix regular clean kitty litter, the clay kind, with water and strain out the grit. It really felt good.

    Exfoliating Mask

For an easy exfoliating mask, mix three tablespoons olive oil or any good oil and one tablespoon kosher salt mix and gently rub into dry skin. Do not use around eye area. This works great on elbows and feet, but it can also be used on cheeks and forehead

    Egg Whites

I use egg whites. Just beat one egg white until it is frothy. Spread it all over your face. Wait until it dries. Rinse it off. My face feels very clean and "tight" after this application. And then I use the yolk for cooking.( I have yet to have found a use for the shell)

    Egg Yolk

The best homemade facial mask that I have used is a raw egg yolk. just apply the raw yolk to your face and neck for 30 minutes and rinse with cool water. Egg yolks are high in vitamin A. The mask is very effective in healing blemishes.

Match Mask to Your Skin Type

For trouble-prone skin, mix oatmeal with water to form a paste.

For normal to oily skin, use an egg white.

For dry skin, use an egg yolk.

In all cases, spread mixture on face and allow to dry. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.

For oily skin, witch hazel makes an inexpensive toner.

For dry skin, you may want to add moisturizer while skin is still damp.

    Susan

    Oatmeal

The cheapest and best facial mask I have ever come up with is oatmeal processed to a powder in the blender and either skim milk or if you are trying to fade spots lemon juice. Really works well for me and I have dry skin.

    More Facial Maks Choices

The kind of the mask you want to use depends on your skin type.

    For dry skin, try:

    * an egg yolk mixed with olive oil and warmed honey

    * sour

  4. Aloe Vera is considered as the top alternative to over the counter acne medications. It is a most popular home remedy for acne. Aloe Vera can be applied in liquid form to the facial area, it will remove excess oil and heal your acne. 5. I am a Registered Nurse and I specialize in skin care and teen acne.

Your question is very broad and you need to get professional advice. I will explain why it's a broad question!

However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produced. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop.

Genetics may also be a cause. It is a myth that greasy food or chocolate causes breakouts.

However, using make-up sponges that are not changed or washed often can contaminate the pores with bacteria which may develop into acneic breakouts.

If you have severe breakouts than you might need medication. There are many factors.

The most important thing is that you need products that are AGE APPROPRIATE! Every age group has different products appropriate for them. If you are young than you need milder products as to not dry out your beautiful young skin.

The problem with commercial skin products is that they are manufactured for MASSES OF PEOPLE and are not specifically made for different peoples' needs.

Your skin type is different than mine and your age differs from mine so how is it logical that we both use the same skin product for breakouts. We need different strengths of cleansers and toners. Do you kind of understand what I am getting at?

Here is my STRONG SUGGESTION for you. I refer all my students and patients to this website:

    www.aboutyourskincare.com

You need to consult with professionals and on this website YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS FOR FREE AND A SKIN EXPERT/PHYSICIAN WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. It would be a shame if you dont take advantage of this free service.

Lastly, they have incredible products for breakouts and they make them specifically for every kind of skin type. That means that if your breakouts are more severe than mine, than while we both will buy the same product yours will have stronger ingredients than mine will.

They have a mild glycolic acid cleanser that's great for your type of skin and also a DRYING LOTION ( I have 3 bottles) that you put directly on your breakouts and the next day it's gone. It's truely magic in a bottle.

A basic guideline for properly taking care of your skin is this ( now if you're a young girl you will need fewer products than this):

    Night time:

    1. Exfoliate the skin

    2. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    3. Mild Glycolic Acid Toner ( cleans off the excess debris and balances the PH level of the skin).

    4. Drying Lotion used only on breakouts

    5. Moisturizer

    Morning:

    1. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    2. Moisturizing cream

The above is a standard you may need to only use one or two products. Visit: www.aboutyourskincare.com

As I suggested and click on the ASK FOR FREE section send them an email and you will get free expert skin care advice.

    Good Luck to you,

  6. I hated proactiv. I thought it took too long, smelled bad and didn't even work. It could be hormonal, if you aren't on hormonal birth control it can really help. I don't use typical drug store acne products anymore because my skin is different than when I was a teenager. I either use a dove beauty bar, St. Ives gentle apricot scrub or olay regenerist daily thermal micro peel to clean my face and then apply olay all day complete sensitive skin moisturizer lightly, mostly to the dry areas but a little bit all over afterwards. I also don't use regular makeup, I use everyday minerals now and before that I used bare minerals for 3 years. It won't cause breakouts like the normal foundation, concealer and blush can.

  7. Acne treatments work differently for different people. What may work for some, may not work for you. You will have to try and find what is the best acne treatment for you and stick with it. If you are unable to find something, you might want to seek the advice of a dermatologist.

  8. I used proactive and loved it.  If you can find a place that sells it in separates i would only get the wash.  I used all three steps and i broke out even more because it dried out my skin.

If that's not what you want to do you could see a dermatologist

  9. 1) Cook oatmeal and apply on face for fifteen minutes and wash.

    2) Make a warm bath with blanch of nettle and rosemary.

    3) Apply equal amount of lemon juice and rose water with a cotton ball and wash it after haif an hour for 15 to 20 days.

  10. Proactive isn't something that I have personally tried, but for something possibly cheaper and maybe just as effective try Clean & Clear Advantage acne kit.  It cost under $20 CAD for me and it works within hours if you use it right.

  11. Im 22 and I took esthetics. i use Pro active. It was the best decision i ever made! I used just about everything walmart sold for acne, and it was like everything made it worse. Pro active is so easy to use and cheap and does the best job! I am in love with it, ive been using it for about 2 years and havent had bad break outs since, just a few pop out in that certain time of the month! anyways i hope this info helped you!! Order it once, I promise it will help!!! I think its like $19.95 for the 3 step system  canadian. and i would also get the moisterizer with spf 15 ( its not oily at all!!) because the reparing lotion you get may make your skin a little dry. :)
