To tell you the truth the US has always had the best carriers in the world. There was never a "best" carrier. Though they have all improved over the years with each class of carriers being made. From the "Saratoga" class that included the USS Saratoga herself and the USS Lexington. Then came the "Ranger" class that only included the USS Ranger. Then came the "Yorktown" class that included the USS Yorktown herself along with the USS Enterprise and the USS Hornet. Then came the "Wasp" class. For which like the "Ranger" calls only included the USS Wasp. These class of ships were the forerunner to the superb "Essex" class. There were 32 ships in all in the "Essex" class for which included such ships as the USS Essex, USS Lexington, USS Yorktown, USS Wasp, USS Intrepid, and the list goes on. No "Essex" class carrier was sunk in the war but there were several that were severly damaged. After that there was the "Midway" class. There was the "Forrestal" class, then the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier the USS Enterprise. I cant remember all the classes but each one was surperb in its own way. Now we have the "Nimitz" class for which by far are the most powerful warships in the world. Once was the battleship for which was taken over by the aircraft carrier in WW2. For sure... the very best aircraft carrier is the one located in the middle of the ocean at the exact position you were told it would be... bow up wind and landing ready... at about two minutes before you run out of fuel and have to land.

Personally I prefer the big ones with the Flat part on the top.

I don't know if their is a best, they all Play a Super roll n the name of Defense ever since the conversion of a Luxury Liner and the Bi Plane.

Whatever the USA's top of the line carrier at any given point in time has always been the best, since WWII.

Currently, it's the Nimitz class.
