  1. Yuengling. The longest standing brewery in the country.

  2. Darklord or Kate the Great commonly top the list of the best American beer. Although I doubt that is what you are really after.

Your best bets for quality American brews would be your bigger craft breweries. Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada are widely available. Other breweries such as Dogfish Head, Bell's, Stone and Founders are incredible just may be harder to find.

  3. Definitely Yuengling!! oldest brewey in the country, right in PA, and Sam Adams is pretty good.

  4. Breckenridge Brewing Co.  (Colorado)

    New Belgium Brewing Co. (Colorado)

    Both local breweries and yummy.

    ...kinda weird stipulation, though...

  5. Brewers:

    Dogfish Head

    3 Floyd's

    Brooklyn

    Bell's

    Great Lakes

    Two Bother's

    Founder's

    New Holland

    Avery

    New Belgium

    Rogue

    North Coast

    Bear Republic

    Stone

    Breckenridge

    Duck-Rabbit

    Dark Horse

    Arcadia

    New Glarus

    Sprecher

    Lagunitas

    Jolly Pumpkin

  6. Really how do we decide what is the best beer in America? We need a Super Bowl of Beer. What about the GABF

Best of show must be the best beer in America. That is until this years competition.

Actually Coors bought out Molson of Canada not the other way. {perhaps it was a merger} Then July 2, 2008 SAB-Miller bought the Molson-Coors comapny. The grand total is now SAB-Miller-Coors-Molson. Just goes to show how craze business is these days.

The rest of your answers is good I think.

"I do question your boyfriend's logic, especially since "bud" isn't all that exciting. I think it tastes like most other beers out there. For the record, Coors is technically owned by a Canadian Compnay (Molson-Coors) and Miller is technically owned by a South African company (SABMiller). Then again, all of Anheuser-Busch's beers are still going to be brewed in America."

  7. According to the list published on the website mentioned?  Sam Adams would be the largest remaining American-owned beer company.    They make a Boston Lager that would be the closest in comparison to a normal bottle of Budweiser.  (Lager)

    PRODUCTION VOLUME

    1. Boston Beer Co. 1.8 million bbls

    2. Sierra Nevada, 662,569

    3. New Belgium, 476,100

    4. Spoetzel Brewery (Texas - Shiner Bock)

    5. Pyramid (Seattle - Portland - Berkeley)

    6. Matt (Utica, NY) 174,200.

    7. Deschutes (Bend, OR.), 164,183

    8. Boulevard Brewing Co. (Kansas City, MO)

    9. Full Sail, Hood River, OR., 122,524

    10. Harpoon, Boston, MA., 116.000

I would also recommend Bell's.  It is a Michigan brewery.

They make a Lager that is a bit more expensive but is worth the price.

  8. I do question your boyfriend's logic, especially since "bud" isn't all that exciting. I think it tastes like most other beers out there. For the record, Coors is technically owned by a Canadian Compnay (Molson-Coors) and Miller is technically owned by a South African company (SABMiller). Then again, all of Anheuser-Busch's beers are still going to be brewed in America.

I think he should try Sam Adams. It's 100% American, brewed in Boston and it's named after an American Patriot! If he's so hung up about trying a real American beer, that's largely available and approachable by Bud drinkers, he should give Sam a try.

There's also Sierra Nevada (from California), Magic Hat (from Vermont), Dogfish Head (from Delaware) and literally hundreds, if not thousands, of American craft (micro) beers that are available, probably some pretty close to where you live.

So, if it's about being all-American, he should seek out a small brewery's beers that are hand-made and far more enjoyable than the mass-produced swill that comes from Bud, Miller and Coors.

  9. Miller/Coors Light

    both now brewed in wisconsin

  10. Sam Adams for the largest American owned and ran brewery, however if your boyfriend thinks Bud is a great beer  then he will be too stupid to actually like anything Sam Adams makes.
