I am after an amp to run 2x 12's enclosed..rated at 500watts each.I have been told to buy a mono block amp,But i find that the price is a little to high..Any suggestions on what i should buy? The amp will only be running the subs and nothing else.

  1. A mono block amp is a good idea because it can dissipate heat better but i would rather have a 1000w 2 channel amp that pushes 500w x 2

  2. a 1000watt amp. is the most you should get. the least is 500. anything in that range you should work with.

    suggested amps.

i listed both mono and 2 channel amps just incase your hesitant about

the wiring for a mono amp. also 2 channel amps are cheaper for the most part.

  3. i have this amp im my car wit the same power handling. i kno its sony but if installed correctly sounds and performs well im my opinion. and really cant agrue with the price either.

  4. Yup. A 1000 watt RMS mono amp. You want power, you pay for it.

You can get away with a 700 watt RMS as a minimum.

  5. More information is needed, like which brand of sub, how many voice coils, what resistance (ohms) each one is, and are those peak or RMS watt ratings?  A website like Crutchfield's should be able to provide you with the info if you don't already know.  Remember, there's a big difference between a Pyramid watt and a JL watt.  My suggestion for decent cheap power would be a good used brand-name amp from eBay (e.g. Pioneer, Alpine).  As long as the amp has enough power to make enough bass to satisfy you without distortion, there's no need to give it a full 1000 watts unless you wanna DB Drag it.

  6. i would use this one
