What is the best and easiest product to remove rust stains from unfinished wood?

Wood is unfinished and not pressure treated. It has been thoroughly sanded and all previous redwood stain/paint has been removed. I am getting ready to fill in holes and cracks prior to staining a medium olive color. It is an outside, semi-covered deck (beneath another deck). I was unable to sand out some rust stains caused by wrought iron furniture (that will be rust-proofed prior to putting back on the deck). I am looking for the simplest and least costly way to remove these rust stains before I re-stain the deck. Thanks to all!!!

  1. maybe try a rougher grit sandpaper - 80 grit - to get further into the grain then sand back over it with a finer grit.
