What is the best answer to the question: How will you improve our promotions department?

I have just interviewed for a promotions manager position in the media industry. The employer wants an emailed response from me to this question. Just looking for some answers that will help get my gears grinding!!! :) Thanks!!

You're doing it!  Have a contest for the best response, and make sure it's anonymous.

  Your question is a little vague, so here are 2 scenarios:

A. if you already work for this company, send out a survey to your current customers.  Ask them what you are doing well, and do more of it, but then give them space to write suggestions of what they would like to see.  Give them an actual incentive that they would want to reward them for their time.

B.  ask your current employees.  They know what goes on, and they each have little ideas on how to improve business, but many times they don't/won't share that because it's not worth it.  Give them an incentive...a paid day off!...for the person that gives you the best response.

But the best answer to your question:  actually DO everything that was suggested.  Take action on it and make it happen.  It doesn't take much to stand out from everyone else and promo companies are a dime a dozen, make sure your dime is their favorite.

Oh, the dreaded interview questions!

I would say that I will bring a new, fresh outlook to the department. I am very creative and love working in promotion. My dedication and expereince shows in my previous projects. (I would bring a portfolio of your previous work that you think is really good.)

Are there any choices to choose from?

How about, you will actively seek and secure new accounts to promote? You have experience in promoting products, and your tract record is successful? Good luck, anyway!
