What is the best approach to finding a Handyman?

Do handymen have some type of association or board that they are a member of? Is there a way to check their licensing credentials?

Depends on what level of expertise you need.  The BEST way is by talking to people that have hired the same guy repeatedly.  I try to avoid hiring blind, and get personal recommendations from friends, co-workers, and neighbors.

verdugo: Get the license # and go on line and check to see if is active. That means that they also have contractors insurance. Request to see what the coverage is from their insurance. Then you can call the insurance people and find out if is still active. You cannot run a business use a contractors license and not have contractors insurance. the law is that if you have a business you must have insurance. otherwise your contractor's license will be cancelled.
